The monastery of Archangel Michael is located in the southeast of the island and near the area of ​​Aliki. It is built high above the sea overlooking the Aegean Sea and Mount Athos. It is a women's monastery and is affiliated with Mount Athos. A piece of the Holy Helium, part of the nails used in the crucifixion of Christ, is kept in the holy monastery.

We do not know exactly when the monastery was founded, but an official document from 1287 mentions it. It is said that in 1110 AD the ascetic Luke was the one who built a small church of the Archangel Michael. Around 1821 the monastery took the place of the church. In 1835 repairs were made, as evidenced by an inscription at the entrance to the church. In 1974, the first nuns arrived and worked hard to transform the monastery, which had fallen into disrepair.

The holy monastery of Archangel Michael acquired a large fortune from the donations of the faithful. With the expropriation law of 1927, the property of the monastery was divided among 72 landless people.
